Bedford Hills LIVE

POWERING UP OUR COMMUNITY

About Us

OUR MISSION

The mission of Bedford Hills LIVE, a 501c3 non-profit, is to strengthen the Bedford Hills community through an organized collaboration comprised of residents, civic groups and local business owners, working in conjunction with the municipal government.  Our organization is united in our efforts to make Bedford Hills a vital and dynamic place to live, work and raise a family.

WHO WE ARE

Not so long ago, a group of passionate Bedford Hills residents and business owners took a hard look at our hamlet and saw many opportunities for improvement - not only from an aesthetic sense, but from a functional and commercial perspective as well. The group met regularly to talk about how they might contribute towards improving the vitality of the hamlet and from these early discussions, the Bedford Hills LIVE community group was born.

GREAT THINGS WE DO TOGETHER

FARM MARKET

NOVEMBER -MAY,  SATURDAYS 10-2

Our farm market is seasonal and held at the historic train station.

Perhaps our most popular project to date, we transformed the historic (and up to that point, unused) Bedford Hills train station into a bustling indoor winter farmers’ market and craft fair. Bedford Hills LIVE conceived and initiated this idea of a ‘pop-up market’ as a way to revitalize our hamlet by attracting more people to shop and enjoy our downtown area. Now in its second smash year, our Saturday 10am-2pm market runs from November-May and features local Hudson Valley producers selling a variety of winter veggies and local produce, meats, cheeses, fish and other artisanal products.

NEW PLANTERS

When we initially came together as a group, our hamlet was looking very much unloved, so Bedford Hills LIVE members embarked on an ambitious plan to beautify the look of our downtown area.

We were awarded grants from the Rusticus Garden Club and Bedford Garden Club to beautify several public spaces within the hamlet with new planters and hundreds of lovely spring bulbs.

We are very grateful for the support!

Working with local nurseries such as Bedford Hills Nursery, we fill and decorate the pots seasonally. BH LIVE is proud of the difference we’ve made and we will continue our efforts to create lasting beauty in and around our hamlet.

HARVEST DINNER

Recognizing that the community that plays together, stays together, BH LIVE hosted our first annual al fresco Harvest Dinner under the stars at the historic Bedford Hills train station. Featuring live jazz and delicious food and wine from our local merchants, it was an unforgettable evening that brought so many of our friends and neighbors together to enjoy each other’s company and experience the true spirit and strength of our amazing Bedford Hills community.

Our second annual community dinner, "Harvest Dinner 2.0, A Taste of Bedford Hills" will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, 6:00-9:30pm, at the newly restored Bedford Hills Train Station. See you there!

COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS

Project for Public Spaces

For our first project, we organized a Public Forum for friends and neighbors to learn more about how we can create positive change in our community. The centerpiece of the evening was a presentation by Meg Walker from Project for Public Spaces, which focused on various communities and towns that have made significant changes and improvements from the ground up.  Aspirational as well as realistic and accessible examples were shared, with specific focus on the possibilities for Bedford Hills.

TRAFFIC & SAFETY

BH LIVE actively advocates for attention from the town of Bedford for improved safety and traffic concerns. Our Traffic & Safety Committee developed a detailed proposal outlining key areas of concern and proposing potential solutions to each. Our committee presented this plan to the Town Board for consideration, and will continue its efforts to partner with our Police, Planning Board and Town Board to spearhead efforts to further develop these ideas.
